Background checks & Fingerprinting

To serve as a volunteer, an individual must complete a background check every two years. In addition, fingerprinting is required for certain volunteer positions with "unsupervised access" to students (an adult having responsibility for a student/students not in the direct and continuous view of a school staff member, regardless of how brief the unsupervised time). If you are fingerprinted, you do not need to do a separate background check.

Background investigation forms must be submitted online a minimum of three weeks prior to the event. Applicants are required to review and acknowledge the AACPS screening criteria for chaperone and volunteer background investigations before applying for a background check.

Volunteers must also watch the AACPS Sexual Harassment and Child Abuse Training Video and sign and submit to SPHS the Volunteer Video Verification form. The film link and form can be found on the AACPS School Safety and Security Page.
